I don't like Liquid Crystal's original characters or added story elements. I mean a hack like Glazed featured Johto, but it had a new story with Johto which I thought was pretty cool. If you want to do a remake then do a remake, if you want to do an original hack then do an original hack. The game does feel like it wants to be a remake but also feels like it wants to do its own thing. If Silver is planning on robbing the lab why would he speak out loud like that? I have no idea why they threw in random swearing, like Silver will say at the beginning that's he watching Professor Elm and Elm is like "Who the hell was that?" which that alone is stupid. I just found a lot of the game's original characters to be cringey at best. I've been trying to catch all 386 Pokemon from the original Gens and have added this game as a means to catch most of the Johto Pokemon. It's also infuriating when you want to simply know where a Pokemon is, how to get past a certain puzzle, or basically do anything that you can't recall off memory only to find that the game has differentiated itself from the original to the point where the original Pokemon Crystal guide is of no help. There's also a bunch of inside jokes, OC characters, and just flat out inaccurate recreation that I find the game to be almost insulting. The added content also contradicts Pokemon canon by saying that Silver is not the son of Giovanni but some random and terrible OC villain, thus nullifying one of the better storylines in the game franchise. It's just frustrating and a waste of time. There's zero balance and not a single bit of the added dialogue or side story is remotely interesting, funny, or entertaining. It's absolutely ridiculous going through the terrible OC content that the developer put into the game. Speaking of swearing, Liquid Crystal has some of the worst fucking dialogue of all time. The dialogue is accurate, there's no pointless swearing, and it feels like it actually could have come out in Generation III as its own remake in the style of Fire Red and Leaf Green. The maps and the game itself are directly based of the original game. The world actually has room to breath, rather than feeling like a cluttered mess. It's a case of the developer attempting to include absolutely everything you could want in a game, be it be Pokemon, items, regions, but failing to capture the nostalgia of the original game.ĬrystalDust on the other hand feels uncluttered and benefits from the simplicity.
